Olive Branch, Miss. – Southern Bancorp Bank, a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and one of the nation’s oldest and most impactful community development banks, has announced the promotion of Renaldo Roberts to Commercial Loan Officer.
“In his many years serving our mission, Renaldo has demonstrated exceptional skill, dedication, and care for the people and businesses we serve,” said Josh Newsom, Market President. “His combination of technical expertise, mission-focused mindset, and genuine commitment to community makes him an outstanding fit for this expanded role. We’re excited to see him grow and continue to put his strengths and passion to work for even more families and local businesses across our markets.”
Roberts first joined Southern Bancorp in 2017 as a banking and policy intern, and soon after grew into a full-time position at its Clarksdale branch as a management trainee in finance and risk. In 2019, he moved into a consumer loan officer role, primarily serving individuals and families of Clarksdale and the greater Coahoma County area. Shortly after the CDFI opened its first full-service location in Olive Branch in August 2024, Roberts began transitioning his time and talents to Olive Branch, while still serving the Clarksdale community.
Over the years, Roberts has built a strong track record in both consumer and commercial lending, blending his expertise in credit analysis, portfolio administration, relationship development, and regulatory compliance alongside the bank’s unique mission and purpose, which is to provide responsive and responsible access to financing in the communities it serves, regardless of one’s zip code or financial story.
In his new role, Roberts will expand his focus to working directly with small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs to support their growth, the local economic ecosystem, the creation and retention of local jobs, and advance Southern Bancorp’s mission of creating economic opportunity.
“I’m grateful for the trust Southern Bancorp has placed in me, and I’m excited to continue making a difference for our customers and communities in this new role,” said Roberts. “Our communities are full of hardworking families and business owners, and I look forward to helping them access the tools, resources, and financing they need to succeed.”
A graduate of Jackson State University with a Bachelor of Business Management, Roberts also holds an Associate of Arts in Business Administration from Coahoma Community College. He is a graduate of the Mississippi School of Banking at the University of Mississippi and is currently enrolled in the Graduate Banking Program at the Barret Graduate School of Banking.
In addition to his banking career, Roberts has served his community through volunteer roles with the Boys & Girls Club, free tax preparation programs, and local book drives, as well as through public service as an Alderman for the community of Jonestown, Miss.
